Marie Copps
Marie Copps' collection suitably called She's A Queen was everything royal.  The bold colours, rich fabrics and opulent headpieces were absolutely stunning.  As an internationally published photographer, designer and fine artist, her collection was described as 'elaborate royal style pieces, presented in simpler forms'.  Perhaps the designers's vision of a modern day Queen with a curtsy to all Queens before Her. Bravo!

Odrea
trompe l'oeil - noun - visual illusion in design intended to create the illusion of a three-dimensional object.  I'll admit, I had to look it up, but after reading the inspiration for the collection  - the visual amusement of fashion by dressing lines on garments, I was intrigued.  At first glance it was the clean lines and monochromatic pallet that appealed to me, but it was more than that.  It had to be, because I am not typically drawn to clean lines and a light hues. It was the subtle volume without volume, it was the texture without texture, it was classic without being safe.  It was smart wearable art. It was very good.

day 3 FAT 2016

 Lesley Hampton
Gichi-oodenaang Ogichidaag, or City Warriors in Ojibwe, presented by Lesley Hampton was a stunning collection that explored the origin of the Native American jingle dress.  Based on the Ojibwe teachings, the jingle dress is used in Powwow celebrations to empower a community. This was demonstrated in an emotional opening to the show by a dancer performing to the beat of a drum, wearing said dress.  It created an energy in the room.  The collection crossed the barriers of size, shape and gender and offered fresh look at welcoming our differences.

Evan Biddell
As a tribute to the late David Bowie and dedicated to Bowie's wife Iman, Evan Biddell's REBEL collection was a fitting nod to the rocker and model.  The first half saw models strutting hard down the runway to the blaring sounds of one of Bowie's anthems, Under Pressure.  The collection not surprisingly had a heavy 70's influence; that I loved.  Models in the second half of the show floated down the runway in ivory silk dresses, resembling angels. The contrast of the two collections, flamboyant vs classic, much like the subjects themselves.  The final walk was celebrated by onlookers, all on their feet, to applaud two great icons and one designers' beautiful vision.  Bravo!

day 1 FAT 2016

 Starkers Corsetry
Known for their custom corsets made in house at the designers' Toronto studio, Starkers Corsetry introduced a mini-line of bras and panties during their runway show this year at Fashion Art Toronto (FAT).  Starkers Corsetry was a fine display of both vintage and modern design.  This look was my favourite of Day 1.
