stash of 'stache

While some guys rock an upper lip accessory all year long, some only do so from November 1st-30th. To mark the end of 'Movember', a collection of photos.  Regardless of their commitment to the moustache, it's a great cause, but these guys should try smiling once in a while!

on the chopping block

I purchased this dress back in the summer and had the bodice taken in for a better fit but I think that this dress is on its' way back to the seamstress.  While I love a long dress, I feel that this one is a little 'too much of a good thing' and think that if I shorten it to 'mini'mize the length it might become 'just enough of a good thing'! For the memories I had to photograph it first.  I'll be sure to repost pics of the dress once it is reborn.

I would love to hear your opinion, send me a comment to let me know if you agree.

how do you wear vintage - deb

WHO: Deb Remike

WHAT: Fashionista

WHERE: Windsor, ON

I absolutely love running into Deb to see what she is wearing.  She has impeccable style is and is not afraid to take risks.  I had a great time photographing her and her take on 'masculine' style.  The shoes are from Joan and David have been in her closet for 20 years.  They are a perfect nod to this seasons trend of 'looks borrowed from the boys'.

choir ghrl

Over time I have build built some great relationships with the owners of vintage shops that I visit regularly.  They have come to know my style, and will often have pieces set aside with me in mind. They also speak my language when I am searching for something unique or obscure.  Case in point with this embellished robe reminiscent of a choir of angels. When I saw it nestled among some new, not yet tagged pieces at Penny Jane's Vintage, my eyes lit up and I almost started singing!

Silk and velvet robe (vintage, Penny Jane's Vintage, Windsor, ON. $75). Tank (Old Navy). Jeans (Gap). Shoes (Joe Fresh). Clutch (Value Village Thrift, Windsor, ON $3 last seen here). Sunglasses (Michael Kors).

searching for sugarman

There are some things in life that move you to the point that you can not initially communicate the impact.  Such is the case of the documentary I saw this morning at the Windsor International Film Fest (WIFF) - Searching For Sugarman.  I had tickets for the Thursday night showing but due to some sound issues, it was cancelled.  This morning while having coffee, I discovered that it had been rescheduled for 10am today so I made my way down to the theatre.
The documentary made by Swedish director Malik Bendjelloul traces the search for a man who some considered to be the voice of the anti-establishment movement in the late 1960`s and early 1970`s. The film follows the tumultuous journey of Sixto Ruiz Rodriguez known simply as Rodriguez's life and how through the tireless efforts of a pair of South Africans, it was determined that he had in fact not died from an apparent suicide on stage but was very much alive and living in Detroit; in the same run down house where he had been for the last 40 years.
Please, if you have the opportunity to see this documentary, do so.  It is an extraordinary story of hope, inspiration and the human spirit.
