Purchased in NYC at the Lucky Magazine, Lucky Shops event, this Richard Ruiz dress is a perfect example of simple elegance. I love the way it drapes off the body but avoids swallowing ones frame. I paired it with a pair of Max Azria heels that mimic the butterfly print in the dress. I kept the accessories simple and added a Chanel bracelet and quilted leather clutch.
I photographed the dress today after wearing it to a wedding reception yesterday afternoon just outside of Toronto. It was a warm July afternoon at the Savannah Golf Links celebrated with family and friends of the bride and groom, Amanda and Keith.
I had the pleasure of meeting Natalie Catenacci, aunt of bride after approaching her about her stunning dress. When I asked her if it was vintage (no disrespect intended!) she was quick to reply, no the boys made it for me! The 'boys' being her brothers Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2 fame. (About this time I wanted to stick my foot in my mouth!!) I explained that I have a love for vintage but also love the art of mixing old and new, to which Natalie replied, then you have to meet the boys. My mind started racing and I kept repeating Dean is in brown, Dan is in black, Dean is in brown, Dan is in black, Dean is in brown, Dan is in black. We had a casual sit down that felt more like catching up with old friends than anything else. We talked about our favourite vintage shops in Toronto, hot spots for vintage in San Francisco (after I mentioned a upcoming trip) and where they find inspirations for their collections. It was truly a magical day.
