What was once my husband's office became my closet when he was away for an extended period of time for work.

Let that be a lesson to never leave a girl alone long enough to ponder and execute the possibilities of a fabulous closet!

floral

I think that this blouse was definitely half of a leisure suit back in the 70’s.
In an attempt (not really) to not make the blouse feel abandoned in 21st century, I paired it with green skinny jeans, simple lace up boots and a killer eel skin clutch.  I love how the flowers in the blouse are so much more vibrant because of the jewel tone of the jeans. They almost appear three dimensional.

how do you wear vintage?

I received this photo last week in a text and it gave me the idea of inviting you the reader to send me a photo of your take on ‘modern meets vintage’.

Send your photo to ghrlunltd@gmail.com. Be sure to let me know what you are wearing and where you found it so that I can share your inspiration.

grape crush

Last fall I took the afternoon off work with a friend to shop for vintage in Detroit. It ended up being a bit of a marathon. We hit a number of shops on or around Woodward Ave. before making our way into Royal Oak.  We visited a few more of my favourite shops there and finally stopped for dinner. By this time it was !  The day was a great success.  Finding this dress at our last stop was just a bonus.  I fell in love with colour and the tiered sleeves.

Magenta dress (vintage, Lost and Found Vintage, Royal Oak, MI. $28). Pony hair belt (Danier Leather) (also seen here) Pony hair wedge sandals (Steve Madden).

Damn, I love the bow tie!

No longer limited to dinner jackets or black tie affairs, the bow tie still remains smart and classy. Velvet bow tie (vintage, Jones & Co. Windsor, ON $34) worn here with a crisp white shirt, denim shorts (both Joe Fresh) and motorcycle boots (Piston).

Accessories: Leather belt (Gucci).

hotel ocho

Built in 1902, and located in the heart of downtown Toronto, this historic building was the home to several industries and businesses. Painstakingly restored, it has been transformed into an industrial loft-style hotel, restaurant and lounge.  With only 12 rooms, it is an intimate and quaint home away from home.

Located on Spadina Avenue, one block off Queen West, the Hotel Ocho was a perfect choice for a recent trip I took to Toronto to visit some of my favourite vintage shops.
