floral denim revisited

A sweet nod to my birthday today when viewing the latest NY Times Street Style (last seen here).  A visit is tempting New York, but I'm off to San Francisco this afternoon for some serious research....vintage shopping of coarse!

how do you wear vintage? deb

 The ghrlunltd brand started as a line of one-of-kind jewelry and handbags I designed some years ago. I still make pieces for myself or close friends every once in awhile.  My friend Deb recently sent me these photos of her wearing one my necklaces. Always a fashionista, she wears it so well!

kaleidoscope of colour

It is not often that I am this relaxed having my photo taken.  I am not sure if it was the 20 minute window I had to work with ( no time to over-think) or the audience of locals that seemed to be amused with my overdressing! Nevertheless, I was very pleased to come across this wall last weekend.  I have had this dress hanging on my closet door for a couple of months now, waiting for the perfect location.  I think that this was it!  With the sun shining and blue wall and pink door contrast, I felt like a piece of art.

I found the dress on a trip to Toronto in Kensington Market.  It was hanging on a clothes line outside of the same store that I scored the Gucci hi-tops last seen here.  The colours caught my eye along with the fact that the shape resembled a caftan. The 50% off sign didn't hurt either!  It was a perfect fit, SOLD. The design is actually quite smart and not hard to replicate.  You may just see a repeat in silk in the days to come.

This little girl came up with her mom when we were shooting the photos.  Her mom told me that she thought I was a model and wanted to have her photo taken with me. Who could resist a smile that cute? She was so sweet.

seeking adventure

Arguably one of the most interesting locations for a shoot thus far, the Gladstone is a local bar with few windows and a whole lot of regular characters.  When I strolled in wearing a fluorescent orange jacket, leather pants and heels (did I mention that it was about 95 degrees outside?) I too became a character of sorts. 

In order to ensure that we made it out alive, my photographer (no, my daughter was not part of this shoot!) and I thought that we had the proper backup, that was until the three lanky gents walked in and were instead mistaken for being part of a basketball team.  My favourite comment of the afternoon was from a woman who has been a patron of the bar for 33 years that said “the only time I see a camera in this place is to photograph a crime scene’
